Like an excited puppy

Okay, so I am a little bit like a dork when it comes to some things. Today I got my very first eye exam and went around telling everyone like I'm some sort of overexcited puppy. Come on, I mean how can you not be excited about dilated pupils?? The magazine kept getting farther and farther away as the solution took affect. Then of course come the good-natured jokes from my family about my pupils, "Are you high?"

Curious about the outcome? Well my vision is 20/20 but I have astigmatism--quite a bit worse in my left eye causing strain. I got the glasses which will take the edge off the strain. I figured even if I don't use them much now, at least I have them before my insurance runs out.

Joke...but not really

Hillary and Obama were in a boat going down the river.

The river was extremely rough.

The boat capsized.

Who got saved?

Rant about tax increase - March 15th

Wow is there anything Obama can’t do? I mean, the guy is magic! He can bring hope to the most powerful nation-- I mean, thank God because we are hopeless right? And change. How horrible it is to BE the most powerful nation. Yeah we really need change...

And now the magician is at it again. If president, he has a plan for redistribution of wealth. How dare you work hard, educate yourself, and EARN what you have. No no-- we need to GIVE your money to those who don’t want to accomplish the same. Have you heard of his plan for a new tax? He wants to Tax people with a combined/total income of $97,000 a year or more and ADDITIONAL 12%. Let me break down how the outcome will play out:

For example, a married couple made roughly $140,000 combine income last year. They paid a fair $20,000 in taxes. Well if you add an additional 12% in taxes, that’s almost $17,000. So they would now have to pay $37,000 in taxes. That’s most of what one of them earned last year.

Redistribution of wealth is Socialism, by the way...one step away from Communism. Oh yeah, did you know that Obama is sponsored by the Communist Party of America? Yeah, what a guy...

Rant about Universal Healthcare- February 16th

I have been hearing a lot about Universal Healthcare and it just burns my cookies that people think that the money to pay for Universal Healthcare is going to magically appear. I had a discussion with a very established women in the sales industry yesterday. A perfectly educated, smart women complained about writing a check for $500 a month to pay for her insurance. Well if 40million people don't have healthcare, where do you think the money is going to come from? Her check for $500 will disappear but now the government will garnish her check (and all yours and mine) an additional $500 so everyone can have healthcare. (think Canada)

Universal Healthcare is not meant to ease the burden from the middle and upper class but GIVE your hard earned money to those in the lower bracket who cannot afford it. This is what welfare is for. Help those in need with state subsidized healthcare. Let focus on reforming welfare rather than introducing a NEW debt of between $250 billion to One-trillion dollars a year.

Moral of the rant is: this woman's $500 check will not go away despite popular belief. Before you vote, do your research and then open up that rusty, dusty box in your head that hold common sense.

Global Warming- May 10, 2007

Before jumping head first into the media hype of "Global Warming" here are some interesting things to think about. I found these points from the opinion page from the Seattle Times so by no means are they fact. But, it is something to think about...

1. It is entirely too egocentric to believe man is the sole cause of climate change. The sun can change temperature too. The climate constantly changes changes up and down, higher and lower.

2. Humans seek a belief in something, whether religion or a secular cause, and global warming followers are predominantly secular. This is their best effort at fulfilling an unnatural void.

3. The alarmists want to radically alter our economy for weather predictions 50 years from now, when predictions beyond five days become increasingly unreliable.

4. Plug in cars. A good idea but it will not reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. Not if electric utilities have to burn more fossil fuels to cover the increased demand from the plug in vehicles.

5.The city government and the mayor are obsessed with being an eco-friendly oasis and they would sacrifice real economic progress by charging a "congestion fee" to drive in the city to put an emphasis on mass transit. BUT who are these city councilmen? Do they ride their bikes to work? Do they take the bus? If we charge a fee to go in Seattle, people would likely reduce their visits and business. Business would likely move north, south and east-- great news for Renton, Bellevue, and Everett!

6. The City leaders don't understand that you can't force or shame people into car pooling. Although it would be nice to see more people car pooling, our mass transit system is grossly inadequate and there aren't many alternatives.

Teenagers, Two-year olds and other complex humans

Teenagers are like two-year olds-- and visa versa. No joke, child psychologists have made this observation. Both ages are in an awkward transition from "childhood" to "adulthood". For instance, a two-year old is moving out of the baby stage into the more independent stage of young childhood. They are stubborn, whiny, emotional, egocentric but are also still clinging to babyhood as they want mom to fix their boo-boos. Now they put up a fight when parents tell them what to do. Parents must now offer choices and find a whole new way to communicate to these ornery toddlers as they are now omniscient and don't like to be told what to do.

Sound familiar? Teenagers are quite similar. They also are moving from the childhood stage into adulthood and show the same characteristics of stubborn, whiny, emotional and egocentric rebellion juxtaposed against the need and want for more independence from mom and dad--but not wanting to lose them entirely as they still need money and rides. Parents used to be able to tell them what to do but now they are dealing with more knowledgeable and insistent (and vocal) versions of two-year olds.

Another interesting observation I made about the baby I take care of is that maybe babies are more in control than we think. For example, this 5 month old cried during the night until picked up or comforted. The parents started letting her put herself to sleep both at the beginning of bedtime and in the middle of the night. Now she doesn't even cry when she is awake and I have to check on her. Interesting.

The last of complex humans is not a child but an adult-- who portrays childlike behavior. In the heat of an argument, she proceeded to try to insult me by telling me how selfish I am and how I have no friends. Well since it's almost true, I did not defend myself or do the same childish insults back to her as yes, I am a generally selfish person (I'm single and 23, why not?) and no I don't have a copious amount of friends. It's quality not quantity. So I let her prattle on in her own self-appeasing and therapeutic way until she was done.

Perplexing is that she criticizes me but she is unable to be alone. She rents herself out as a doormat to her "friends" who only seem to use her for alcohol and clubs. She's never been on a date because she is afraid of being one on one. Whenever we hung out alone, she felt the need to invite more people. Sometimes being alone shows that you are more confident than needing to be surrounded by people to make you feel good about yourself. Looks and status are everything to her. She wants all guys to know that she knows things about cars and football. She's got to have a full wardrobe even if that mean being in debt. She also has a tendency to break up with her friends when they don't conform to her thinking and lifestyle. To me that is the most selfish thing of all. My selfish habits are that I wont give up a full nights sleep to party with her and wont spend my hard earned money excessively.

Anyway, I just had to sort out this strange relationship as well as the comical one of teenagers and two-year olds. Perhaps we all carry some of those characteristics and never fully grow up. But be wise to not be so self-righteous when judging others.

We seem to have forgotten

People hate President Bush, they hate the war and they hate hate. People are forgetting why we are in the war, don't understand why is it not done yet and use Mr. Bush as the scapegoat. Let me take a moment to remind you why we are in a war for our freedom.

On that morning, nineteen terrorists affiliated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. Each team of hijackers included a member who had undergone some pilot training. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners (American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 ) into the World Trade Center in New York City, one plane into each tower (1 WTC and 2 WTC), resulting in the collapse of both buildings soon afterward and extensive damage to nearby buildings. The hijackers crashed a third airliner (American Airlines Flight 177) into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia , near Washington D.C. Passengers and members of the flight crew on the fourth aircraft(United Airlines Flight 93) attempted to retake control of their plane from the hijackers; that plane crashed into a field near the town of Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania .

Aside from the 19 hijackers, 2974 people died as an immediate result of the attacks, and the death of at least one person from lung disease was ruled by a medical examiner to be a result of exposure to WTC dust. Another 24 people are missing and presumed dead, bringing the total number of victims to 2,998, the overwhelming majority of whom were civilians . The dead included nationals from over 80 different countries. (www.wikipedia.com)

If we end our war now then we are disregarding the lives of those lost due to terrorism. Interesting how everyone was so patriotic at first. Flags sprouted up everywhere, people sported flag shirts and "support our troops" decals suddenly appeared on the backs of cars. Now we hate war? Now we hate justice for those who were taken from us so violently and maliciously? War is terrible but necessary.

Freedom isn't free

I am so irritated with liberals. The Seattle anti-war protesters for the 5 year anniversary of the Iraq War bother me to no end. They have no idea what is really going on. They say “support our troops” and yet they set up protests in front of Military recruiting offices. That’s a bit treasonous if you ask me…

Nobody likes war. War damages people and places, kills our boys, and hurts families. But war to stay free is inevitable. But the War on Terrorism is a preventative measure to stop more 9/11-type occurrences. If we do as protesters say and bring home the troops and stop fighting, then the countries who hate us will have all the time, money, resources and space to build weapons or create plans of attack. All without interference. They would pretty much have a free pass to destroy us. Those warlords are not rational people so you cannot send Obama over there to “talk” because you cannot reason with psychopaths.

Get some sense and logic people.

Rest in Peace

How terrible it must be to feel so desperate and alone. How frightening it is to feel so hopeless that there is no one to turn to, not even yourself, in your time of need. I found out that an old friend from high school killed himself last week. We weren't close but we kept in touch and I never picked up that he was unhappy. No one else did either I guess. 25 years old with ambitions to be a writer, actor and pilot. Uncle, son, and friend. May he rest in peace.

My Adventures

Ah, blogging. I enjoy writing and sharing my thoughts so I thought I'd join the world of bloggers. My life is pretty typical but occasionally I have some great adventures like 2 weeks in Peru, a couple random trips to Alaska, and one spontaneous weekend trip to San Fransisco to watch the Seahawks cream the 49ers :) I also like to rant about politics as the most recent presidential race is really stressing me out.

Welcome to my world
