Law for lying

What?! People lied on the campaign trail?!

Free speech is one thing, lying and slander are another. We shouldn't need a law like this and it's sad that we are at the point where we are demanding it. Obama needs to take special note of this law for his next campaign... which he'll probably start up pretty soon...

Lawmakers want to ban lying on the campaign trail

Washington state lawmakers are trying to
reinstate an old law that prohibited lying in political campaigns.

The state's previous ban on campaign lies was tossed out by the
state Supreme Court in 2007, as a violation of the First Amendment.

Yesterday, the state House approved a new version of the ban, on
a 92-2 vote. The bill would ban false statements about a candidate
for public office, if the statement is libelous or defamatory and
committed with actual malice.

Supporters of the bill say it will clean up elections. But
opponents worry that it's still not up to legal standards for
protecting free speech.

Also on this day...

Happy 5th birthday Ian!

Wish I could've been there

Hard core conservative Keli Carender, member of our Young Republican group, set up a protest against the so-called "stimulus package." It took place in downtown Seattle at West lake park. Watch the video here. Read about it here, an article written by Don Ward, another fellow Young Republican.

Obama's rhetoric is the real catastrophe

I am very surprised to see this article from the Wall Street Journal.

President Barack Obama has turned fearmongering into an art form. He has repeatedly raised the specter of another Great Depression. First, he did so to win votes in the November election. He has done so again recently to sway congressional votes for his stimulus package.

In the last year, the U.S. economy shed 3.4 million jobs. That's a grim statistic for sure, but represents just 2.2% of the labor force. From November 1981 to October 1982, 2.4 million jobs were lost -- fewer in number than today, but the labor force was smaller. So 1981-82 job losses totaled 2.2% of the labor force, the same as now.

Job losses in the Great Depression were of an entirely different magnitude. In 1930, the economy shed 4.8% of the labor force. In 1931, 6.5%. And then in 1932, another 7.1%. Jobs were being lost at double or triple the rate of 2008-09 or 1981-82.

Auto production last year declined by roughly 25%. That looks good compared to 1932, when production shriveled by 90%. The failure of a couple of dozen banks in 2008 just doesn't compare to over 10,000 bank failures in 1933, or even the 3,000-plus bank (Savings & Loan) failures in 1987-88. Stockholders can take some solace from the fact that the recent stock market debacle doesn't come close to the 90% devaluation of the early 1930s.

Now his transcripts from his recent town hall meeting in Indiana.

Economists from across the spectrum have warned that if we don't act immediately, millions more jobs will be lost, and national unemployment rates will approach double digits. More people will lose their homes and their healthcare. And our nation will sink into a crisis that, at some point, we may be unable to reverse.

Where's his hopenchange rhetoric now? Read on.

Now I'm not going to tell you that this bill is perfect. It isn't. But it is the right size, the right scope and has the right priorities to create jobs that will jumpstart our economy and transform it for the 21st century.

I also can't tell you with 100% certainty that everything in this plan will work exactly as we hope. But I can tell you with complete confidence that endless delay or paralysis in Washington in the face of this crisis will bring only deepening disaster.

And that is why I hope Congress passes it as soon as humanly possible, so we can get to work creating jobs, helping families and turning our economy around.

So here we have a bill that may or may not work, may or may not create jobs and the world will end if congress doesn't pass it immediately. Congress did pass it so Princess Pelosi could make a PR appearance in Rome and.... things haven't changed. So what was the rush? Why did we need it passed right then and there if it may or may not work but it will save the world.

What?

Thomas Jefferson

These are very appropriate for what's going on these days.

When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

And finally, a very interesting quote. In light of the present financial crisis, it's interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802: "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

Typical liberal runaround

Liberals. Sickening. This is why I look down on them.

No straight talk. It's like when Obama said he's not redistributing the wealth he's "spreading" the wealth. Right.

Pork, beer, and snowboarding

Three ingredients for a glorious day. That along with great company and sunshine.

Every American out of a job

Oh Nancy Pelosi, you've become the man you hate! The crowd goes on a rampage when Bush misspeaks but Pelosi gets a pass. This video is funny.

In case you didn't catch that, she said 500 million Americans out of a job. We have about 300 million people in America. Hmm. Take that you Democrat ass, everybody misspeaks. So shut up about Bush already unless you want to say that Pelosi is as dumb as Bush.

England called, they want their guns back

Via gunsamerica.com, this video is very long but SO good. The middle part is particularly engaging when they talk about how a man got life in prison when he used a gun to protect his home that was broken into twice. The third time he got fed up and shot and killed a young burglar. The slain burglar's partner made it out ok and got a slap on the wrist for his crimes. The government promised the good people of England that if they give up their guns then the streets will be crime free. In actuality, crime has risen drastically. Hey, no locks on the safe is practically an invitation right?? Right....

Children see, children do

Ok, normally I'm not a soft, mushy, singing-Kumbaya-will-save-the-world kind of person but I surely did appreciate this video when I saw it. Now I must share it.

Kids mimic parents. You can't expect "world peace" if you pass down your hate and disrespect (and partisan political views) to children. Libs didn't like or respect Bush-- sure, that's ok. But rather than calmly and rationally talked to their children, and adults for that matter, they rage and protest, spewing out ungodly things that teach the opposite of world peace. If only more people would examine and criticize themselves as much as they do others...
